SYMA B. FUNT ESQ.

Ms. Funt works as a Senior Assistant County Attorney in the Litigation Bureau of the Westchester County Attorney’s office. She has handled all phases of civil litigation and conducted jury trials pertaining to personal injury, civil and constitutional rights, construction and employment discrimination claims in federal and state courts. In June of 1997, Ms. Funt was selected by former County Executive Andrew O’Rourke to attend the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, for an intensive three-week program for executives from state and local governments around the world.

In the past, Ms. Funt has also been active as a Major in the New York State Guard. As an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate, she has provided legal assistance to our troops throughout the State during their mobilization after 9/11 and has performed State Active Duty in the Joint Operation Center as part of the NYS Department of Military and Naval Affairs’ response to the 9/11 attack. As a result of her participation to the State following the attack on America on 9/11; she, along with countless other devoted Guard Members, was awarded the NYS Defense of Liberty Medal.

Ms. Funt graduated from Cardozo School of Law, where she was awarded an Alexander Fellowship. This Fellowship enabled her to work full time for a semester in the chambers of the Honorable Robert J. Ward, United States District Judge of the Southern District of New York. She was also awarded a public interest grant that enabled her to work as a judicial intern during the summer for the United States Judge Magistrate James C. Francis, IV, of the Southern District of New York and she was an editor of the Moot Court Board.

Ms. Funt graduated from the University of Cincinnati, where she majored in Philosophy, was on the Dean’s list and was a member of the Mortar Board Honor Society. Prior to going to law school, Ms. Funt received a Certificate in Echocardiography at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions, where she graduated first in her class and received the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Ms. Funt is admitted to practice in New York State and the U. S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. When not working, Ms. Funt enjoys spending time with her family, horseback riding, hiking and fishing, among many other things.
